Rap music icon Kanye West has announced his plan to run for the 2020 presidential race, and fans, including Elon Musk, are excited about it.
The rapper and businessman previously expressed his support to the current U.S President Donald Trump, but it looks like Kanye now wants to join the political landscape. West announced the bold decision to run for the presidency on the Fourth of July and even publicly made a statement through a tweet.
“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision, and building our future. I am running for president of the United States!” stated Kanye through a tweet on Saturday.
There were mixed reactions on Twitter, with some fans expressing concern about Kanye’s decision and others showing support. Even Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, expressed his support. Famous YouTuber Marques Brownlee tweeted back at Kanye, telling him that he might be a bit too late to bid for the upcoming election. This is because the deadline for independent parties to file their candidacy has already passed.
This is the second time Kanye has announced his presidential aspirations.
Kanye West initially announced his plan to run for the 2020 presidential elections in 2015 during the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. However, the recent announcement through a tweet was confusing because he tweeted in January this year that he plans to join the race to the White House in 2024. Now his latest tweet says 2020, yet his bid is already too late.
Nevertheless, the latest announcement has gotten many people curious as to what Kanye’s administration would be like if he were to become president of the United States. The rapper gave a slight insight into his style of leadership as president during a 2018 interview with Charlamagne Tha God. He stated that his campaign would be like that of President Trump, but his principles would be like those of Bernie Sanders.
West’s bid for the White House comes at around the same time that the Black Lives Matter protests are going as the African American community seeks justice for those that have been slain by racist police officers. Many feel that a black president would help ease the fight racism more effectively.
