Lili Reinhart has talked about her decision to come out publicly about her bisexual orientation. The Riverdale actor came out to admit that she was attracted to women two months ago. According to Lili, her closest friends knew about her bisexual nature, but she kept it away from the public until recently when she came out.
“I knew full well that I was attracted to women from a young age. I felt that since I’ve exclusively been in hetero-normative relationships, it would be too easy for any outsider, especially the media, to vilify me and accuse me of faking it to get attention,” she said.
Lili wanted to associate with protests surrounding the LGBTQ+ community and the death of George Floyd.
In an interview with Flaunt magazine, the 23-year actor said that she opened up after experiencing a lot of solidarity from the ongoing protests against LGBTQ+ community discrimination and racial segregation following the death of George Floyd.
In June, Lili posted on Instagram and announced that she would be attending an LGBTQ+ for Black Lives Matter protest in Los Angeles. The event was organized for LGBTQ+ people to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. It was the first time she publicly announced her sexual orientation.
Many of the issues that kept Lili from opening are the normal and usual issues that many bisexual people deal with. These include general misconceptions about bisexuality, bisexual erasure, and biphobia. These factors have contributed to mental health problems and the feeling of being invalidated.
According to a report by Human Rights campaign, bisexual people are at the highest risk of suffering mental problems. According to experts, this problem can be attributed to minority stress and stigma. Another report by Journal of Adolescent Health established that young bisexual women experienced anxiety and depression at a higher rate than straight and lesbians.
Lili splits with Cole Sprouse
After more than three years of working together, Lili recently split with Cole Sprouse, a Riverdale co-star. None of the two stars has confirmed news of their split. According to sources close to the matter, the two could separate before the end of the pandemic.
