Meghan Markle is expecting her second child with Prince Harry. The couple welcomed their first child Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on May 26, 2019, a year after their wedding.
Meghan and Harry expecting their second child
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced on Valentine’s Day than their second-born is on the way. A statement from the couple’s spokesperson stated, “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.” However, other details of Harry and Meghan’s baby are still unknown for now.
Interestingly, the news comes months after Meghan indicated that she had suffered a miscarriage in July 2020. Meghan candidly explained the “unbearable grief” she had to go through in a piece that appeared in The New York Times. The Duchess of Sussex recalled feeling sharp belly while changing Archie’s diaper. She said, “I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”
Many women experience miscarriages but are not ready to talk about it
Meghan stated that many women experience miscarriages at some point, but very few are willing to discuss the grief that comes with it. The Duchess said, “The conversation is still a taboo, riddled with unwanted shame and perpetuating a cycle of solitary mourning.”
The news of her pregnancy has been a secret due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. The couple and their son have been self-isolating at their residence in Santa Barbara, California, where they occasionally took part in virtual appearances.
Recently, the couple opened up about sharing fantastic downtime with Archie. The former Suits star told TIME Editor-in-Chief Edward Felsenthal that they have been trying to embrace all the quality time they get with Archie right now and don’t want to miss any step of his growth, which has been special. In another interview in October 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex talked about witnessing their son’s milestones. Harry said that “we were both there for Archie’s first step, first run, and everything.”
